About Me…
Hi there! I’m Kellie—a mom, wife, sister, daughter, and friend who wears many hats and keeps them all spinning (mostly). My life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. Looking back, it all made sense—it’s genetic, after all. But here’s the thing: I believe ADHD is a gift. It’s not always easy, but it’s taught me to embrace my quirks, and I encourage my kids to see their unique traits as superpowers, too.
My son is living proof of what makes ADHD so remarkable. He’s an absolute firecracker—always the life of the party and a natural-born social butterfly. He’s an out-of-the-box thinker with a knack for solving problems in ways most people wouldn’t even dream of. His people skills are off the charts, his intuition is razor-sharp, and he can argue like a seasoned lawyer. (Trust me, I’ve seen it in action.) Whether he’s building, creating, or working with his hands, his focus is so intense that the world around him simply fades away.
At almost 21, my son is thriving in ways that highlight the incredible strengths of ADHD. As a second-year apprentice in a four-year program to earn his Electrician Journeyman license, he’s already been promoted to project manager on a job site. His ADHD gifts—creative problem-solving, hyperfocus, and charisma—have become his superpowers. Watching him excel has been an inspiration and a reminder that different paths can lead to amazing destinations
But, as many of you know, life with ADHD has its challenges. While in the public school system, he struggled to sit still, disrupted class, and had a stubborn streak that could make even the most patient teacher throw in the towel.
We live in beautiful Texas, where outdoor adventures like swimming, fishing, and exploring keep us grounded. My kids love being outside, and so do I—it’s where we find balance amid the chaos. But life isn’t always picture-perfect. My almost 21-year-old has faced ongoing struggles in a school system that isn’t designed for thinkers like him. Organization, following instructions, and hearing the dreaded word “no” are daily battles for him—and for us.
Through trial and error, we found what worked for our family. We’ve moved away from medication and instead lean on a combination of diet, exercise, educational accommodations, consistency, routines, and endless amounts of love and encouragement. And guess what? He’s thriving in his own way—confident, self-assured, and one of my absolute favorite people to hang out with.
