So you want to start using CBD. You’ve heard amazing stories about how wonderful it is, or you’ve never heard of it and want to learn more. Or you’re completely overwhelmed with all the information and just want to know how to begin. It is a great journey, but has a lot of information to navigate and it can become overwhelming. Hang in there and take it one step at a time.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring constituent of industrial hemp (cannabis sativa) plants. It is the most abundant non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis, and is being scientifically investigated for numerous reasons. Most people have heard of a cannabinoid called THC, which is the ingredient in cannabis that gets users high. Unlike THC, CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and does not cause a high.
What’s the difference between CBD from hemp and CBD from marijuana?
Both hemp and marijuana are from the same genus and species (Cannabis Sativa). The characteristic of having low THC is the single difference that most rely on to distinguish industrial hemp from marijuana. CBD taken from hemp and marijuana is the exact same compound.

How Do I Know How Much To Give?
Since there is no standardized measurements in this emerging industry, it is important to be able to determine how much CBD is in the bottle and then convert the MG in the bottle, to MG in each ML of fluid (MG/ML). Then again convert to MG in each Drop. (Don’t worry, we have a calculator to help)
It is recommended that everyone starts at a very low dose of 2 mg per day to slowly activate the endocannabinoid system then slowly increase until you find your beneficial level.
This Calculator provides a guideline for dosing. It starts everyone at 2 mg. Remember, It is a guideline. It will also convert your bottle’s MG to MG per drop for you, so you do not have to do the conversion process. It takes out the math. Just plug in your bottle’s MG (per bottle) and the size of the bottle (in ML) and it will calculate the number of drops you need for the recommended dose.
It is important to start at a low amount in order to slowly activate the endocannabinoid system (ECS).
We recommend everyone starts at 2mg if taking a sublingual dose and 4-5 mg if ingesting CBD (gummies or adding to any food or drink), however you can always start lower.
You can increase the mgs whenever you feel comfortable doing so (we recommended staying at an amount 4-7 days), but look for these side effects from taking too much, too quick. If you experience these, just back off the amount the next day.
- Increased hyperactivity
- Moody or irritable
- aggression or agitated
- highly emotional
- stomach aches if taken on full stomach
You can always start at lower than 2 mg. Do not start higher, the body needs to acclimate to CBD and a slow process is best. The benefits of CBD comes from waking up your endocannabinoid system in your body and brings it back to homeostasis. It allows your body to operate at efficient and effective levels by filling in the gaps where necessary. If your endocannabinoid system has been asleep, it’s like a dry sponge and if you dump a ton of water on a dry sponge it just rolls off. If you drip water on it, it will absorb. Therefore slowly drip some CBD so your body can absorb it.
What Causes The Variances?
- Individual body makeup
- Deficiencies in the body.
- Ailments trying to improve (anxiety will use a lower dose than pain management)
- Severity of ailments (epilepsy will use a different strains and higher dose than depression or insomnia)
- Natural terpene (the aromas and tastes specific to the hemp plant) mix within each oil and brand.
- Added terpene mix (if added-other Terpenes strains) within each oil and brand.
- Sublingually (under the tongue) vs ingested (gummies, tea, coffee, other edibles and capsules). Ingested requires a higher dose because much of the CBD is filtered out through the liver, where as sublingually, the CBD goes directly to the blood stream with no waste.
How Do I Take CBD?
Sublingually– drops placed under the tongue and held for 60 seconds, then swallow.
Capsule – Some companies offer capsules for easy consumption. You can also purchase empty capsules and fill them with the sublingual drops. Amazon has capsules if you’re interested in this option.
Edibles – You can make your own edibles or purchase edibles thru a reputable company. Be careful of artificial flavors and coloring. These artificial ingredients can create irritability/aggression and hyperactivity in those that are sensitive.
Vape – The option to vape is available for adults using concentrates like shatter, wax, terpsolates etc,
How do I know if the company is reputable and credible??
When was the company founded? – if the company has less than two years in the industry, you should avoid them.
Is the company an Multi-level-Marketing (MLM) company, if so, completely avoid. – A reputable company does not have to employ their customers to make exaggerated claims and push the product on new customers.
MLM companies have a history of poor customer reviews and subpar products sourced from questionable farms.
The marketing strategy is to sell to an uneducated audience before they have the chance to get educated, and then have them push the product to more uneducated customers.
Another point to consider is MLM companies tend to say they have the best “quality” product, but pay extremely high commissions (up to 85%). Ask yourself this question. Is their product a “quality” product if only 15% of the price is allocated to the product (growing, harvesting, bottling, marketing and distribution)?
Known MLM companies are: HempWorx, Club8, Kannaway, My Daily Choice, Green HoriZen, Zilis/Pur 7, Prime My Body, CTFO, Purium, NewYouPro.com.
Lab Reports are essential – If a company can not provide Lab Reports, AVOID! Lab reports are essential to know what exactly is in the product. Whether it’s oils, tincture, edibles, or concentrates they should have the products independently, third party Lab Tested for purity, potency, terpene content and solvents.
