What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring constituent of industrial hemp (cannabis sativa) plants. It is the most abundant non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis, and is being scientifically investigated for numerous reasons.

Most people have heard of a cannabinoid called THC, which is the ingredient in cannabis that gets users high. Unlike THC, CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and does not cause a high.

What’s the difference between CBD from hemp and CBD from marijuana?

Both hemp and marijuana are from the same genus and species (Cannabis Sativa). The characteristic of having low THC is the single difference that most rely on to distinguish industrial hemp from marijuana. CBD taken from hemp and marijuana is the exact same compound.

How Do I Take CBD?

Sublingually– drops placed under the tongue and held for 60 seconds, then swallow.

Capsule – Some companies offer capsules for easy consumption.  You can also purchase empty capsules and fill them with the sublingual drops.  Amazon has capsules if you’re interested in this option.

Edibles – You can make your own edibles or purchase edibles thru a reputable company. Be careful of artificial flavors and coloring. These artificial ingredients can create irritability/aggression and hyperactivity in those that are sensitive.

CBD Dosage Calculator and Concentration

Due to the nature of the CBD industry and medical cannabis, lack of regulations and inconsistent labeling, it’s difficult for customers to understand concentration of CBD products based on the label alone.

Those milligrams, whether they be 250, 500, or 2000 reflect the TOTAL milligrams in the entire bottle.

To understand the strength of a product, the label does very little until a customer converts the concentration to milligrams per milliliter (mg/ml) or milligrams per serving.

This is why we developed the CBD Dosage Calculator. By using our CBD dosage calculator, you’ll know exactly how much is your sweet spot dose if you should need to change CBD oil products.

CBD Dosage Calculator- CBD MG Per Drop Explained

CBD oil products are typically sold in 15-30ml bottles (samples size bottles can be as small as a 5ml bottle). Each full dropper can hold up one ml of liquid. On average, 1 ml of fluid is about 20 drops.

However, this can fluctuate based on dropper size. To determine the milligrams in a single dropper, or mg/ml, divide the total CBD in the bottle by the number of milliliters.

Product:

  • A contains 250mg ÷ 30ml = 8.3mg per dropper (8.3 mg/ml)
  • B contains 250mg ÷15ml = 16.7 mg per dropper (16.7 mg/ml)
  • C contains 250mg ÷ 5ml = 50 mg per dropper – (50 mg/ml)
  • A contains 500mg ÷ 30ml = 16.7mg per dropper (16.7mg/ml)
  • B contains 500mg ÷ 15ml = 33.33mg per dropper (33.33 mg/ml)
  • C contains 500mg ÷ 5ml = 100mg per dropper (100mg/ml)

Milligrams and Milliliters are both important when calculating the concentration or strength of a CBD oil product.

Many leading CBD experts suggest starting low but never suggest what “low” is. We suggest pediatric users start at a 2 mg CBD dose, and adults start at 10-15 mg CBD dose, so that you don’t skip your beneficial dose.

Typically, 2mg is equivalent to one single drop (like a single rain drop). For less concentrated products, you will need more than a single drop to equal 2 mg. It is important to know the milligrams you are taking if you need to transition to a new product.

Our CBD dosage calculator determines the number of milligrams (mg) per drop, and number of drops that equal the recommended starting CBD dose.

Starting CBD Oil Dosage Using the CBD Calculator

Each person’s Endocannabinoid System is unique. Therefore, CBD dosage recommendations are not based on weight or age and is at best, trial and error. Experts agree that the low and slow method is best.

Based on user data and surveys, adults looking to reduce anxiety and  symptoms of ADHD, find a dose of less than 20 mg most beneficial. While children may need a much higher dose despite their lower weight and height.

By starting low and slowly increasing, the most effective and affordable dose is not missed when starting too high based on age/weight charts. Also, a sweet spot dose of CBD hemp oil also depends on severity of symptoms, which again makes dosages based on body weight, height and age irrelevant.

The CBD dose in Children should be low to start. We recommend starting at a very low dose of 2 milligrams of CBD sublingually, and 4-5 mg of CBD per day if ingesting CBD (adding to any food or drink or gummies) as an initial serving size, however you can always start lower.

Can a Child overdose on CBD oil?  Probably not in the strict definition of “overdose”. Overdose is a strong word for CBD.  Although anyone can take too much, the results are mild compared to pharmaceutical medications.

When to Increase CBD Oil ADHD Dosage

You can increase the CBD milligrams (mg) whenever you feel comfortable doing so but look for these side effects of CBD from taking too much, too quick. If you experience these, back off the amount the next day.

NOTE: CBD is biphasic which means it can have opposite effects at high and low doses. It is recommended to start low. If after 1-2 weeks and increased hyperactivity or aggression is apparent, a high dose (25-50 mg) may be needed.

CBD Dose for Autism – Based on feedback in our FB group, Individuals with symptoms of autism are known to need much higher starting doses and should start at 25mg

Symptoms of Too Much CBD:

  • Headaches
  • Increased hyperactivity
  • Moody or irritable
  • aggression or agitated
  • highly emotional
  • stomach aches if taken on full stomach
