What Is CBN Oil and How Can It Improve Sleep?
Cannabinol (CBN) is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant and can be taken in order to relieve pain and other symptoms. According to Medical News Today, “Similarly to THC, CBN acts on the body’s CB1 receptors, though in a much milder way as CBN has a greater affinity for the body’s CB2 receptors.” This reaction in the body’s endocannabinoid system is beneficial for pain relief and as a calming aid.
It is not intoxicating, but does create a mild psychoactive effect, meaning that it should not cause you to get high. One of the biggest potential health benefits of CBN is the calming effects it offers; due to the plant it originates from.
Why use CBN?
It’s a safe, all-natural way to calm an anxious or distracted mind and using CBN can allow you to experience peace without taking more processed pharmaceutical medication. Although more research is needed, current research suggests that CBN can also be used to stimulate appetite, it may have anti-inflammatory properties for pain relief, and it could possibly be used to treat epilepsy, similar to the more common CBD. Research does seem to suggest that CBN works better as a sleep aid than CBD products.
CBN is produced when cannabis extracts oxidize. Oxidation occurs when these plants are left in direct light or outside the refrigerator, especially when they are left in a container that is not airtight.
CBN is more difficult to isolate from the cannabis hemp plant than most chemical compounds are, which is why it tends to be more expensive on the market. Cannabis plants contain small amounts of CBN, and even when it is obtained, it still needs to be synthesized before it can be properly used.
CBN produces a calming, sedative effect that can help you fall asleep with ease. On average, you will feel the effects of taking CBN between 30 minutes to 2 and a half hours, as every person is a little different and their body will react differently to CBN. It is recommended that you wait at least an hour after taking one dose before you take another, if you have not gotten the desired effects.
If you take CBD in the evening, you should soon experience its relaxing effects which will lead to a faster, longer, deeper, and more restful sleep than usual.
There are currently no known side effects from using CBN. If you feel that you may be experiencing side effects, speak with your doctor. There are few studies on CBN out there at this time.
We recommend using CBD and CBN alongside your current treatment plan for ADHD. Talk to your doctor before starting, as your doctor can inform you if these products will interfere with any current medications. Although CBN can be a helpful alternative medication, it may not work for everyone.
At ADHD-Naturally, we believe in natural alternative solutions for treating ADHD. If you or a loved one is struggling to sleep peacefully at night, we definitely recommend speaking with a doctor and giving CBN products a try. They may be the easy, all-natural solution that’s perfect for you.
How Much CBN for Sleep?
We recommend starting at a very low dose of 2 mg for CBD or dose of CBN sleep aid. Slowly increasing until you find your beneficial dose. You can increase as often as you feel comfortable. Most people will microdose until they find their beneficial dose.
By starting low and slowly increasing, your body’s receptors slowly acclimate to cannabis products for optimal health.
